- The Federated States of Micronesia is an independent country that is part of the Caroline Islands and the Micronesia archipelago.
- There are just over 100,000 residents in the Federated States of Micronesia, but they speak nine different languages.
- The wreck-diving capital of the world is here, in the Chuuk Lagoon. There are more than 50 shipwrecks to explore, sunk here after World War II Operation Hailstone destroyed the Japanese base.
- There is a massive ancient city in the Federated States of Micronesia: Nan Madol. Once the ceremonial and political seat of the Saudeleur Dynasty, the city was made up of 100 islets surrounded by canals. The megalithic structures found on the islets are believed to have been built starting in the 12th century.
- While the total land area of Federated States of Micronesia is only 271 square miles, it is spread out over 1,003,866 square miles of ocean.

Getting Around
Be aware of poor road conditions in the Federated States of Micronesia. Most roads are unpaved, have few street lights, have no traffic signals and are shared with animals and pedestrians.
