Combining a rugged, red-rock setting with estimable luxury, Amangiri Canyon Point defines how grownups want to play in the great outdoors. The luscious resort claims 600 acres of the vast Colorado Plateau with its modern suites of Amangiri and tented pavilions of Camp Sarika. Secluded, yes. Dreamy, absolutely. Roughing it, absolutely not. Contentment, serenity and a communion with the canyon country and the Navajo Nation – this is what Amangiri offers its fortunate guests.
Here’s why you’ll love Amangiri Canyon.
Where You’ll Stay
The resort ensures an intimate ambience with just 34 suites spread out in two wings that branch off the main pavilion building. The Mesa Wing suites offer incredible sunset views, while the Desert Wing offers views of the dunes and plateaus. All Amangiri Suites have been designed with clean lines and natural materials to reflect the Utah desert. Think white stone floors, concrete walls, timber accents and blackened steel highlights. You’ll have your own outdoor lounge and fireplace and, if you choose to, a private pool or roof terrace. Bathrooms feature twin rain showers and soaking tubs with a view.
Looking for even more seclusion? Head out into the desert, five minutes from the main resort, to Camp Sariki, where you’ll find expansive pavilions with indoor living and dining areas, terraces with fire pits and plunge pools.
Or, for the ultimate treat, consider staying in the four-bedroom Mesa Home minutes from the resort. The home is an oasis within the Grand Circle Region, with a 50-foot infinity pool and spacious stone terrace. Sun loungers, lounge seating and an outdoor dining area lend themselves to glorious evenings with family and friends as you watch the sun set over the desert.
What You’ll Do
Go hiking, climbing and canyoning along the via ferrata (“iron roads”), networks of fixed rungs and cables along the rock faces of the region. Your Aman guides will guide you through, making these dramatic gorges and sheer canyons accessible to most travelers.
Go horseback riding with the resort’s seasoned guides. If you have equestrian experience, you can challenge yourself with ridge-top rides above the canyons.
Enjoy a day on Lake Powell, either kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding or cruising along on a boat for a half- or full-day tour. You’ll see the reservoir’s most remarkable natural feature: the Rainbow Bridge, a 290-foot-tall freestanding arch.
Of course, you’ll be drawn to the national parks of the area, including the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon. Amangiri staff can arrange excursions to the North and South rims of the Grand Canyon, into Zion to witness the Great White Throne and fabulous hiking and into Bryce Canyon for its otherworldly hoodoos (sandstone pillars). You might even choose to see Bryce from the air by helicopter or fixed-wing plane.
Speaking of air tours, there are countless options here as well, including hot-air balloon flights over Amangiri’s 600 acres and private flights over Monument Valley and the Navajo Nation.
Back at the resort, there’s the Aman Spa for sybaritic afternoons, and lounging by the main pool, featuring a massive rock formation that juts out into the pool and seems to blend seamlessly within the space.
What You’ll Eat
Savor the flavors of the Navajo Nation and the American Southwest as you take a culinary journey during your Amangiri stay. Either through private dining or the main restaurant, your palate will be stimulated by tribal buffalo carpaccio, native Pima grits, fried Brussels sprouts, red Inca quinoa, watermelon gazpacho and more. Don’t miss the four-course “Spirit of the Journey” tasting menu, paying tribute to the cuisine of the region’s five tribes, along with matched wines.
If you’re staying at Camp Sarikia, you have access to your own restaurant as well as the main resort dining room. Plus, you’ll enjoy classic campfire breakfast and open-grill lunches.
How You’ll Be Pampered
Plan for as much time as you can at the 25,000-square-foot Aman Spa, looking out over canyon country. There are signatures therapies and journeys, as well as treatments influenced by Navajo healing traditions. Take a short hike to rocky outcropping for an alfresco yoga class high above the valley floor. As you flow through the poses, you’ll have the chance to see the Navajo National Park all around you. The spa’s Grounding Rituals offer guests three treatments to counteract the frenetic pace of modern life, including a body polish and wrap, full-body massage and Shirodhara scalp treatment. Spend time at the peaceful Water Pavilion with its rejuvenating outdoor heated pool.
At Camp Sariki, guests have access to two spa suites with their own menu of treatments and signature therapies. Of course, you also have access to the extensive Aman Spa.
How You’ll Get There
The small airport in Page, Arizona, is the closest one to Amangiri Canyon Point. It’s a 25-minute drive from there to the resort. If you fly into Phoenix, Flagstaff or Las Vegas, the resort can arrange for a car transfer.
